ELLIJAY, Ga. -- As several inches of snow fell on Northeast Georgia Saturday night, some tried to escape it while others drove toward it. Roads were icy into Sunday afternoon in some areas, with the DOT staying active in Rabun and Habersham counties. But that didn't stop Randy Powell from driving his camper up from Dallas to give his grandson a snow day.

"He's loving it, he couldn't wait to get up and come outside this morning," Powell said. "We'll drive back later and watch the super bowl."

Other drivers got stuck trying to get out of the weather. Bryson Parker was left his job when he saw the weather coming. He was too late.

"As I was coming up the hill it was nothing but ice," Parker said. "The rear end got out from beneath me and I was trying to correct it but I just lost it."

Most of the snow started melting when the sun came out, and the roads dried up. At Young Harris College in Towns County, the campus was quiet Sunday morning after students wore themselves out Saturday-proving that no one outgrows a fun snow day.

"There were a bunch of college kids having a snowball fight, making snowmen, and igloos," said Josh Rudnik.
