  • ATLANTA -- Much of the Atlanta metro area was under a tornado watch until 9 p.m. on Monday evening. 

    Heavy rains pummeled the Atlanta area during the afternoon commute. Few counties reported structural damage however Georgia Power is reporting that up to 1250 households are still without power in metro Atlanta.  

    According to the National Weather Service, an area of low pressure moving northeast out of Mississippi and  Alabama will drag a cold front through Georgia. 

    Heavy rain and embeded thunderstorms ahead of the front will produce strong winds, hail and possible tornadoes.

    A tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for tornados to develop in the watch area.
