(WXIA) -- Halloween is a fun time for both adults and kids in which they get a chance to dress up as their favorite fictional characters for the day.

Families can also get in on the action by attending one of many family-friendly Halloween events taking place throughout the Metro Atlanta area.

Legoland at Phipps Plaza will host a brick-or-treat event where kids will be allowed to build their very own Halloween themed LEGO structures. Also for a unique Halloween event, the Georgia Aquarium will be transformed from an Aquarium into "A Scary-Um" with an environment filled with mysterious sea creatures.

The Douglas County Sheriff Department will host a trunk-or-treat event with games and prizes for kids dressed in their Halloween costumes. Participants attending are asked to bring candy and party favors for donation.

For those trying to avoid the cold temperatures outside, a variety of malls including Mall of Georgia and Northlake Mall will open their doors for kids to trick-or-treat throughout participating stores.

For additional Halloween events, the Help Desk has put together a list to make your planning a little easier.
