Savannah named to 'offbeat places' list

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Savannah ranks 6th on the list of "offbeat places," according to the America's Favorite Cities survey published in the September 2013 issue of Travel + Leisure.

In the survey, readers rank 35 metropolitan areas for features such as music scene, restaurants and resident population.

The historic Georgia port city received its ranking for its "happy hour atmosphere" as well as its impromptu theater and ghost tours.

Topping the list was America's most European city, New Orleans. Portland, Or., Austin, San Francisco and Santa Fe all finished above Savannah for eccentricity.

The top ten cities on the list:

2 - Portland, Ore.
3 - Austin
4 - San Francisco
5 - Santa Fe
6 - Savannah
7 - Seattle
8 - New York City
9 - Providence
10 - Nashville
