ALBANY, Ga. -- A museum honoring famed cook Paula Deen is coming to southwest Georgia.

The idea has been in the works for nearly two years. Consultants met Friday to begin developing the museum.

Deen still owns most of the furniture from her family's Albany home where she grew up and wants to include it in the museum. It will also feature a retail shop and maybe a cooking area.

Developers won't say exactly where the museum will be, but say they have two locations picked out in downtown Albany.

"This started a year and a half to two years ago," said museum chairwoman B.J. Fletcher. "This has been amazing to me that it has remained a secret. And again, we don't release anything until Paula gives us permission because this is Paula's show. But it's just exciting and we know what's going to happen at the end of the year."

Fletcher added she received a call Monday morning with a request to move the museum to Savannah, where Deen lives now, but said that's not going to happen.

Developers said they would like for the museum to open around the holidays.
