ATLANTA -- Travel + Leisure magazine's March edition includes its annual list of U.S. cities with the most charming accents, as ranked by readers.
The 2013 "America's Most Charming Accents" list has Savannah, Ga., at No. 1, while Atlanta lands at No 15.
Travel + Leisure readers rank 35 U.S. cities each year "for tangible features like great hotels as well as intangible qualities, such as a peaceful atmosphere and the refreshingly regional way that some locals talk," the magazine says.
The magazine's readers noted the way residents of Savannah, and some other Georgia cities, added syllables to words. An example, T+L says, is how ice cream becomes ice cuh-ream. The lit can be downright soothing, readers said.
Readers liked Atlanta's "gentle version of the classic drawl."
Other cities in the top 5 include New Orleans at No. 2; Charleston, S.C., at No. 3; Nashville at No. 4; and San Juan, P.R., at No. 5.
