WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Someone is stealing American flags in the Towne Lake area of Woodstock, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office announced Friday.

Nine flags were taken on Labor Day, according to Cherokee County Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Jay Baker. The flags were custom-made by the Towne Lake Optimist Club and had been placed throughout the area as part of a fundraiser.

Baker said two of the flags were taken from Running Deer Parkway, two from Towne Lake Hills South Drive, two from in front of the Wendy's on Towne Lake Parkway, one from Victoria Road, one from Township Drive and one from in front of the Chick-fil-A on Towne Lake Parkway.

The flags are described as 3-feet-by-5-feet on a 10-foot metal pole with a white plastic cap on top, Baker said. Each flag has an estimated worth of $40.

Anyone with information about the flag thefts is asked to call Cherokee County investigators at 770-928-0239.
