ATLANTA -- There's a reason why Atlanta's DaShaun Johnson is called the Guru of Abs. Johnson's 8-pack really does appear to be made of steel. And, when he's training his clients, it's clear he's nothing to play with.

We caught up with the rising fitness star to find out how to get rid of those unwanted jiggles and keep your new year's resolution.

"You can do minimum workouts at home versus going to the gym," said Johnson. "A lot of people say 'I can't make it to the gym' and they just immediately shut down. There's a solution to the problem. You just have to find out what works for you."

Also, consider increasing your cardio.

Find a work out partner to keep you motivated for the new year.

Perhaps, the most important step would be changing your diet.

"Abs are definitely made in the kitchen because when you're not in the gym, you have the peer pressure of snacking bad," said Johnson.

Cancer Wellness at Piedmont dietitian Shayna Komar is an expert when it comes to healthy eating.

"Eat from the rainbow," said Komar. "You definitely need your greens and your reds and your yellows. The more colors that you can get on your plate the better."

The dangers of having a gut?

"External access fat in your abdominal area - it leads to heart disease - a lot of cancers because then you have a lot of inflammation, a lot of hormone in-balances particularly for women," said Komar.

One of the major reasons Johnson said he takes his abs training camp all over the city is promoting health.

"No matter how big, how small or how tall you are, we can get it done," said Johnson.

Just remember to make those changes in the kitchen.

"I usually tell my clients to eat like a king in the morning, eat like a prince mid-day and eat like a pauper at night- so, you burn your calories throughout the day," said Komar.
