MARIETTA, Ga. -- Marietta police have used DNA evidence to solve two rapes from September 1986.
The evidence points to 44-year-old Antonio L. Brooks, who is currently serving time at Lee State Prison in south Georgia for another rape he committed in Marietta in 1988. All three rapes occurred within a quarter mile of each other.
Last September, one of the 1986 victims contacted Marietta police with questions about her case. Marietta police spokesman David Baldwin said detectives reviewed both case files and discovered that Brooks' DNA matched them. They also determined the methodology used in the 1988 conviction was the same in both open cases.
Brooks faces charges of rape, aggravated assault and burglary in one of the 1986 cases, and rape and burglary in the other one.
Baldwin said police are now looking for more possible victims. Anyone with information in these or similar cases is asked to call Marietta police at 770-794-5371 or the anonymous tip line at 770-794-6990.
