MCDONOUGH, Ga. -- Henry County Police are looking for the man who tried to rape a resident of the Villas at Eagles Landing Apartments on May 20.
Police released a sketch of the suspect late Monday, two weeks after the attack.
"He did attempt to do something but did not succeed," said Sgt. Joey Smith. "She screamed, and residents heard her. Before they got to her aid, the individual had already left the scene."
Police said the suspect approached the woman as she went to check her mail just after 11 p.m.
According to police, he tried to sell her marijuana, then exposed himself and propositioned her for sex.
When she refused, police said the suspect pushed her down and tried to rape her.
But she screamed and fought back, and he ran away.
"I'll definitely be more careful when I'm by myself," said neighbor Erin Thompson. "I don't feel safe walking by myself anymore. It could have been me or one of my sisters. I'm scared."
Residents said they're upset that the security gate at the complex is broken and hasn't been fixed.
They're also frustrated that apartment managers didn't notify them of the attempted rape.
Police are offering residents three tips to stay safe: stay off your cellphone at night, be wary of strangers and be loud.
