Cedric Alexander becomes DeKalb County police chief

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- DeKalb County has a new police chief. 

CEO Burrell Ellis announced his appointment of Cedric Alexander as chief on Wednesday.

He comes from Dallas, where he was the federal security director for the TSA and Homeland Security at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. 

Alexander has a long history in law enforcement, beginning in 1977. He promises that he will be an "active" police chief.

His first day is April 1.
