DALLAS, Ga. -- A team from the Paulding County Sheriff's Office and GBI are investigating the death of a man who died while being held inside the Paulding County Detention Center.

According to Paulding County Cpl. Ashley Henson, 26-year-old Andrew Scott Pittman was found unconscious in a bathroom early on the morning of February 8.

Medical aid was begun immediately, but Pittman was unable to be resuscitated.

Pittman was being held on charges of Possession/Distribution/Manufacturing of Controlled Substances, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession/Use of Drug Related Objects and Probation Violation, as Henson reported.

At the time of his death, Pittman was awaiting trial, and had been in jail since November 14, 2012. He was not eligible for bond because he had a problem violation hold.

Investigators believe Pittman's death was not from an altercation or violence. They are waiting for Pittman's autopsy and toxicology results from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Crime Lab.
