BUFORD, Ga. -- One man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Gwinnett County Tuesday evening.

The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. at the Alexander North apartment complex on North Alexander Street in Buford.

Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Jake Smith said police found five or six people smoking marijuana outside the apartments.

The investigators began to frisk the suspects when one of them, 20-year-old Jose Antonio Hernandez-Gonzalez, pulled out a gun and held it to his head, Smith said.

The officers asked Hernandez-Gonzalez to drop the gun; when he didn't, they unsuccessfully shot him with a Taser.

Smith said Hernandez-Gonzalez then pointed his gun at the officers, who fired at him, killing him.

Nobody else was hurt. Smith said the three officers who shot at Hernandez-Gonzalez were placed on routine administrative leave.
