MARIETTA, Ga. -- A bicyclist was struck by a car in a hit-and-run accident in Cobb County Wednesday morning.

The accident was first reported at around 5:30 a.m. near the intersection of Canton and Piedmont roads in Marietta.

Cobb County Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said 49-year-old Anthony Randolph Dixon was riding his bike when he was hit by a dark-colored car outside the Krystal on Canton Road. After striking Dixon, the car kept going.

Dixon was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in critical condition. The extent of his injuries Thursday morning is not yet known.

Pierce said investigators are now looking for the dark compact car that hit Dixon, and believe that it sustained damage to its front passenger side fender, hood and windshield.

Anyone with information in this case is encouraged to call 911.
