PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. -- Authorities say a man was killed in a shooting that involved at least two Port Wentworth police officers.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the early Tuesday morning shooting.
Catherine Sapp, special agent in charge of the GBI's Statesboro office, says officers went to a house in the Newport subdivision in Port Wentworth to talk to the man, who was uncooperative with police.
She said the situation escalated, and the officers were in fear for their lives. Officers fired on the man, who was in a vehicle outside the house.
An autopsy will be done on the person who was shot. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in such cases.
