Francisco Lopez-Cano, 28, is wanted by US Marshals
FOREST PARK, Ga. -- Francisco Lopez-Cano is 11Alive's Fugitive of the Week for March 21, 2012.
The 28-year-old is wanted by the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force on outstanding warrants from the Forest Park Police Department for child molestation, statutory rape and sodomy.
For the past year, Lopez-Cano has been living with a family he befriended in Forest Park. "It seems that he was polite, charismatic and became a good friend," said Deputy U.S. Marshal Eric Heinze.
But the mother of the house recently noticed a small bruise on her 14-year-old daughter's neck and became concerned.
"Upon inquiring about the bruise, the girl indicated she had been engaging in a sexual relationship with Mr. Lopez-Cano," Heinze said. "During the last three months of his time in the residence, his true motive for being in the residence surfaced, which was to entice the juvenile daughter into sexual acts."
On March 6, the mother took her daughter to the Forest Park Police Department where an investigation led to the charges against Lopez-Cano. The mother had already kicked him out of the house; he hasn't been seen since. But he may not be far away, according to Heinze.
"We believe he's still in the area of Clayton County or the Atlanta metro area because he's still continuing to try to contact the victim," Heinze said, adding that Lopez-Cano has been trying to reach the girl through social network sites.
The public can help catch Lopez-Cano by calling Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477). Lopez-Cano goes to the top of our Fugitive of the Week list on Rowson's Crime Scene.
