  • UPDATE (March 14, 2012): Police said DaQuan James Royal was arrested in DeKalb County.

Royal, 19, had escaped from police custody in Sandy Springs in August 2011. After getting away from police, he taunted them in a Facebook post from his cellphone. It said, "I escaped from sandyspings police (expletive) youll i'm james bond (expletive)".

The Sandy Springs Police Department said a tip to Crime Stoppers that came from a viewer who saw Royal featured on 11Alive News, helped them catch the suspect.

When he was stopped by police, Royal gave officers a fake name. He is the sixth Fugitive of the Week who has been arrested after being featured on 11 Alive's Fugitive of the Week.

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- DaQuan Royal is 11Alive's Fugitive of the Week for February 15, 2012.

The 19-year-old is wanted by Sandy Springs Police after escaping from custody.

Royal has been a royal pain to police. On August 4, 2011, Sandy Springs police officers were called to the Legacy Key apartments on Dunwoody Place because of a disturbance outside one of the buildings.

Royal was part of that disturbance. He had an outstanding probation violation in Sandy Springs and the officer who questioned him found marijuana in his socks. He was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car.

While the officer was questioning other people, Royal somehow got out of the patrol car that was locked from the outside and had bars on the window. "We suspect he probably had some help from somebody else," said Sandy Springs Police Officer Forrest Bohannon. She said someone may have opened the door from the outside.

As if the escape wasn't bad enough, Royal did something that irked police so much that they not only put him on the front page of their website, they also moved him to the top of their fugitive list.

Shortly after he escaped, Royal made an entry on his Facebook page from his cell phone. It said, "I escaped frum sandyspings police (expletive) youll i'm james bond (expletive)"

"He made a few comments about how he got away from the police and just kind of rubbed it in our faces that he was able to escape," Officer Bohannon said.

Police believe Royal is still in the Sandy Springs area because he has ties there. If you know where he is call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or go to Rowson's Crime Scene.
