ROCK SPRINGS, Ga. (WXIA) -- The Georgia State Patrol says two inmates who escaped from the Walker State Prison in Walker County late Monday were captured Tuesday morning.

The escapees, identified as Buell David Emberson and Fred Brooks, were captured about three miles from the prison by authorities.

The two had escaped from the prison at about 9:15 p.m. Monday, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.

The inmates had "fashioned a device that allowed them to breach the fence at the medium security facility," a spokesperson for the Department of Corrections said.

Emberson was previously convicted of several charges, including aggravated assault and eluding police. Brooks was incarcerated for robbery and burglary.

The prison is located in Rock Springs, Ga., about 14 miles south of Chattanooga.
