Sacks Thrift Avenue in Duluth features an eclectic mix of merchandise from household cleaning supplies to priceless antiques, all under one roof.
Ken Matthes opened the store last fall with several partners. He said they acquire merchandise from a variety of locations. "Storage auctions, estate sales, bankruptcies, closeouts," he said.
Some of the merchandise is brand new but there are also aisles of used pots and pans, dishes and silverware. Many items have interesting histories, like furniture that belonged to a bankrupt NBA star or antiques that barely survived the 2009 flood but have been restored by an expert whom the store employs.
Matthes said the business will soon be rebranded as Sacks Thrift and Antiques. "We wanted to try to create a differentiation between the antique side and the thrift side," he said. Matthes said some customers who came in looking for thrift store bargains were surprised to find antiques like a grandfather clock priced at nearly $10,000.
Sacks is located at 3455 Peachtree Industrial Blvd Ste G
